Sunny Days Sangria

Just a quick post on my recent obsession. Since the weather has been so great, we've been sitting on the deck in the evenings and well, drinking! Today and this weekend were especially perfect.

My husband had just mowed the lawn, I had just weeded the entire vegetable garden, and we were cooling down. This sangria has oranges, lemons, and a tiny bit of ginger ale.

I made lamb burger sliders for dinner, that spinach & purple kale salad is my newest crop!

Tonight we had white wine with pomegranate seltzer and blueberries tossed in for good measure!

For dinner we had this. It's amazing and tonight I made it with leftover pulled pork, black beans, tomatoes, salsa and a little sharp cheddar. Try it, you won't be disappointed! You can easily make it vegetarian as well.

Here's to the (almost) weekend; I'm planning on hitting up The Flying Apron!

One small thing, not related to food

I've been thinking lately about running and how much I crave it. I haven't been feeling well this week, and came across this:

It's perfect timing, because of our "resolution" (I hate that word-so non permanent!) to eat cleaner. Although the two: eating and exercising are two different activities, they are both so essential to my well being that I think of them similarly. Have you ever seen those Olympic athletes that were once Iraq War veterans, then amputees, then sprinters with artificial limbs? I cry each and every time I see them. And this little quote thing, I found on Pinterest, while slightly cheesy, is a good reminder.

Do it because you only get one brave little body your whole life.

Happy Friday!

Can you believe December starts tomorrow?! You know what that means... Getting a Christmas Tree, Hot Cocoa with Peppermint Schnapps, Baking, Christmas Movies and General Cheer. I don't know about you, but I'm feel pretty blessed this Christmas Season, and am trying to remember my blessings ever day!

Healthy Conversions!

Good Morning!

As I was perusing the web this morning, I stumbled across this... What a great find, especially so close to the holidays! I know in my home we're trying to keep as healthy as possible, and while it's a perfect time to indulge at the holidays, we still like to feel like we're treating our bodies well! The more often we eat vegetables, organics, and non GMOs, the better!

I'll be back tomorrow, with my recipe for Nigella's Rosemary Bread... YUM!

Around Town

Lately I've been inspired by the beauty my little neighborhood (in a big city) has to offer. From the docks to the old streets, I appreciate all the culture that has gone before me! Seattle is a wonderful place, please visit!

Don't these look amazing?? I don't think my nearly packed up kitchen will produce them, but you can find the recipe here.

In other news, I have Pumpkin Mac n' Cheese to tell you about...

One for the Table

I don’t know if anyone knows this, but Nora Ephron is an idol of mine. She was a hilarious feminist; a pioneer in screenwriting. She wrote a few treasures such as, (you may have heard of them),You’ve Got MailWhen Harry Met SallySleepless in Seattle, and Julie and Julia. Plainly put, she was a rockstar. She also said, in an NPR interview, ”You can never have too much butter – that is my belief. If I have a religion, that’s it.” Glorious.
Anyways, the other day, I was recently searching the internet for some culinary magazines and blogs that I was hoping to send in recipes for and stumbled across One for the Table. It had a blurb saying that it was created by Amy Ephron. Instantly, I remembered that Nora Ephron had had a few sisters, just like myself. Three younger sisters, to be exact. After doing a little more research, I did see that Amy was in fact Nora’s sister. Magical!
Clicking around, I saw that the restaurant review section for Washington consisted of only one restaurant review, in Spokane. Nothing on Seattle eats! So, I sent in my little review on Urban Family Public House to One for the Table and was later contacted by Lisa, their editor, to say that they would include my review in their Washington state section, and would love other contributions from me as well.
Needless to say, a little bitty dream of mine came true. I’m not saying that I’m a fabulous writer, I’m not saying I’m talented. I think I just appreciate good food, good drink, and nice places, and I like to put all these thoughts down. To have them read by someone that has a connection to someone as wonderful as Ms. Ephron, just checks off a little box on my Bucket List that I never knew I had.  So here’s to you, Nora Ephron, I know you’re looking down on your sisters, I know you enjoyed good food, and I know you loved life. And I can appreciate that.

Happy Monday

I love all the beautiful thoughts, especially: marry only for love and count your blessings. All are good thoughts to live by.
